Scorpio Mars as Chart Ruler

When Scorpio Mars Rules the Birth Chart

When we talk about Mars at the Chart ruler of Scorpio Ascendent, we must consider the qualities of Scorpio and the significations of the 8th house to start to understand how Mars will behave in these charts.

Scorpio is a feminine, fixed, water sign.

Mars is hot & dry, masculine, malefic.

The 8th house is about all that is “taboo”…death, rebirth, transformation, desires, taxes, mystery, occult knowledge, inheritance.

Feminine quality gives a more receptive, passive or introverted expression…don’t let that fool you. Think of it this way, Scorpio waits to act, it observes, it detects by taking everything in which makes Scorpio Mars more strategic as a chart ruler

A fixed nature which makes it more steady, stable, constant, and unyielding, but it is also ruled by water, which is moving, and the ocean is powerful and deep, which guides Scorpio Mars to deep and transformative experiences and allows it to be driven by power or very aware of power dynamics. Scorpio Mars is driven to transform and as the chart ruler its aim is to transform the self.

A hot, dry, masculine & malefic nature will exude a fast and extroverted expression.

We can see right away that there is a conflict in expression which is why Scorpio ascendents will need to learn to balance these expressions to succeed. While on the one hand Scorpio ascendents will want to stay in the shadows and observe if they are to truly transform, they will need to come out and make moves or they will never transform from the lower vibrational expression of Scorpio.

Working in the real world with the information they gather will further their understanding and allow them to take action that will allow for transformation. Without action they simply draw further into themselves. It takes bravery to either change or accept the things about themselves and others and this is crucial to their transformation efforts.

How Scorpio Mars will have Scorpio risings transforming self will be further guided by the house and the sign of the house where Mars is. A couple examples:

Mars in the 4th (which is Aquarius) will experience or desire a family that is not necessarily traditional. They may have felt like they were different from the rest of the family. They also may have experienced trauma in the home or with family which ignited a rebellion against carrying on any generational trauma and put an end to any karmic patterns which led them to transform their idea of what family is. Diving deep into their psyche and reflecting on their emotions to better understand their internal drives will be important for their success.

Mars in the 8th (which is Gemini) will experience or seek things like learning how to manage shared resources, changing their relationship with death, traveling to fulfill their passions, studying occult or esoteric subjects, or becoming more adaptable through experiences of death and regeneration. Having a variety of experiences and continuous learning is important to their success.
